Evelyn Leonard, Of Counsel to The Sinreich Group, is a recognized leader and legal authority in the commercial real estate industry. With over twenty-five years of legal experience, Evelyn brings an intimate understanding of the real estate industry and the inner workings of real estate operating companies to her legal work. As Vice President and General Counsel of Levin Management Corporation, a full service shopping center management company with a portfolio of over 12 million square feet, Evelyn was a member of the executive team responsible for the growth and operation of the company and provided legal representation to institutional investors, REITs, asset managers and high net worth individuals.
In addition to responsibility for thousands of big box, anchor, in-line and specialty leasing transactions with tenants such as Whole Foods, Fairway, Kohls, Kmart, T.J. Maxx, Ann Taylor, Bed Bath & Beyond, Barnes & Noble, Office Max, Home Depot and Lowes, Evelyn has drafted, negotiated and closed intricate multi-property acquisitions, structured finance transactions, restructurings and major redevelopments. Clients routinely seek her out for guidance on risk assessments, sensitive issues triggered by workouts, property repositioning, value creation strategies, portfolio evaluations and property management.
Evelyn is a graduate of The University of Akron School of Law where she served on the Editorial Board of the Law Review and holds a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke University. Additionally, Evelyn is a former Board and Faculty Member of the Georgetown University Law School Advanced Commercial Leasing Institute, and was the 2006 New Jersey Women in Real Estate Honoree as a leader in the commercial real estate industry. A frequently sought out speaker, Evelyn has appeared before audiences of the American Bar Association, The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education and the International Council of Shopping Centers. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Florida.
In addition to her legal work for private sector clients, Evelyn is on the board of several civic and not-for-profit organizations, including the South Brunswick, New Jersey Aging in Place Partnership where she is facilitating the development of an innovative mixed-use real estate project focused on providing an arts-centered community for retired artists. She provides strategic guidance and real estate legal expertise to Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation and Brooklyn Legal Services in connection with the development of affordable housing. Evelyn also represents other nonprofits seeking to lease space in the New York metropolitan area.
